About
The Greenland family began establishing Fruition Farm as a small endeavour focused on mixed vegetable and fruit production on the south end of Quadra Island during the summer of 2021. Our cultural practices are aligned such that we operate without synthetic fertilizers or pesticides, though we have not yet sought official organic status.
In an effort to formalize our intention to provide quality produce while minimizing our impact on the environment, we completed an Environmental Farm Plan assessment in the Spring of 2023 and our Environmental Farm Plan was accepted as implemented by our 2024 growing season.
During our first partial season, we divided our time between establishing our family garden, a new ⅕ acre mixed berry planting of blueberries, raspberries, boysenberries, and blackberries, and a few hundred garlic for market during upcoming seasons; as well, we raised an initial small flock of laying hens for limited egg sales beginning winter 2022.
By spring 2023, we began work to extend our cultivated area dedicated to vegetable production from around ⅛ acre to around ¼ acre. We subsequently expanded our small farm's wash, pack, and cold storage infrastructure to accommodate our desire to provide a higher volume of fresh greens more consistently through the year. As of our 2024 growing season, we are now attempting to manage just under one acre of combined vegetable and fruit production and around 60 laying hens.
Alongside all of our work each season on vegetables and small fruits, we have chipped away at land preparation for a two and a half acre apple orchard block, which has become several steps closer with each season.
